Recent fatal road accidents have raised concerns over passenger safety on Pakistan’s highways. In July 2026, at least 40 people were killed and eight injured when a passenger coach travelling from Quetta to Peshawar plunged into a ravine in the Danasar area of the Sherani–Zhob Highway, near the Balochistan–Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa border. Rescue operations were complicated by the difficult mountainous terrain.

In another major accident in June 2026, at least 10 people were killed and 13 injured when a passenger van travelling from Multan to Murree plunged into a drainage channel and caught fire near Khajut on the Rawalpindi–Murree Expressway. The vehicle reportedly lost control while negotiating a bend, leaving passengers trapped inside.

Earlier, in January 2026, five people were killed and 27 injured when a bus travelling from Rawalpindi to Multan plunged into a ravine near Dhok Pathan in the Talagang area of Chakwal district. The crash was attributed to dense fog and poor visibility on a hilly stretch with sharp turns.
