Jessica Chastain breaks silence on ‘The Savant’ delay as Apple sets 2027 premiere
Apple has scheduled ‘The Savant’ for spring 2027 after postponing its original September 2025 premiere

Jessica Chastain is standing by her decision to publicly criticise Apple for postponing The Savant following the assassination of conservative activist Charlie Kirk in 2025.
In an interview with Porter published Monday, the Oscar winning actor said she felt responsible to the people involved in the series and to the real person who inspired her character. Chastain said she believed she had to speak publicly because she considered the postponement a mistake.
"I really had to go on record that I thought it was a mistake," Chastain said. She added that the experience taught her that it was acceptable to be honest while remaining respectful and grateful for her career.
Chastain also rejected the idea that women should feel obligated to remain silent because they are fortunate to have work. She said people can express gratitude while also being honest about decisions they disagree with.
The Savant stars Chastain as Jodi Goodwin, a veteran, wife and mother who works undercover in online communities where white supremacists gather and sometimes discuss domestic terror attacks. Chastain also serves as an executive producer on the series.
Creator Melissa James Gibson adapted the thriller from journalist Andrea Stanley’s 2019 Cosmopolitan article, "Is It Possible to Stop a Mass Shooting Before It Happens?"
Apple had originally scheduled the series to premiere on September 23, 2025. The company removed it from its schedule days before its planned debut after Kirk was assassinated, later saying it had decided to postpone the series following careful consideration.
Apple confirmed last month that The Savant will finally premiere in spring 2027. The new launch will come about a year and a half after the original date and is scheduled for after the November 2026 midterm elections.
Chastain’s comments keep attention on the long delayed series and the decision surrounding its release, while Apple has not indicated that the postponement was linked to any criticism from the actor.
