Damon Lindelof confirms ‘Lanterns’ Season 2 is being explored by writers
Damon Lindelof says he will not return creatively but writers are already exploring future stories

Lanterns Season 2 is now in the early stages of development, with writers already exploring ideas for another chapter of the DC Studios series following its Season 1 finale.
Damon Lindelof, who co-created the HBO Max drama with Chris Mundy and Tom King, confirmed that writers are working on ideas for a potential second season during an interview with Collider. However, HBO has not officially renewed the series, meaning development work should not be treated as a formal season order.
The update arrives after the first season concluded with John Stewart, played by Aaron Pierre, accepting Hal Jordan's ring and becoming Earth's newest Green Lantern. Kyle Chandler's Hal was killed during the series, with the creative team deliberately choosing to make his death carry lasting emotional consequences.
Lindelof said the writers working on Season 2 were aware of the importance of preserving the impact of Hal's death. He rejected the idea of reversing the development through a twist such as revealing that Hal was a clone or that his death had somehow been temporary.
At the same time, Lindelof stressed that he does not know what the eventual creative direction for another season would be. He is not expected to lead the next chapter, leaving the writers currently developing ideas with considerable freedom over the show's future.
The potential continuation would follow John's new role as a Green Lantern, after the Season 1 finale established him as Earth's protector. The finale also left several story possibilities open involving Sinestro, the unusual ring John now carries and the wider Green Lantern mythology.
For now, HBO and DC Studios have not announced an official renewal date, episode order or production schedule for Season 2. The current status is therefore early development rather than a confirmed second season.
The development news nevertheless gives fans a clearer indication that the creative team is considering how Lanterns could continue after its first eight episodes.
