Production on The Batman Part II has been temporarily paused after director Matt Reeves stepped away to focus on a family matter, Warner Bros. and DC Studios have confirmed.

The upcoming superhero sequel was filming in London when production was halted on Monday. In a statement, the studio said Reeves has its full support and that it looks forward to continuing work on the film.

“Production on The Batman Part II has been temporarily paused while Matt Reeves focuses on a family matter,” Warner Bros. and DC Studios said. “Matt has the full support of DC Studios and we look forward to continuing the journey soon.”

The production pause comes as The Batman Part II remains scheduled for release on February 18, 2028. Sources said it is currently too early to determine whether the temporary stoppage will affect the film’s release date.

Reeves returns as director for the sequel after helming 2022’s The Batman, which starred Robert Pattinson as Bruce Wayne. Pattinson is set to reprise his role as Batman, with Andy Serkis returning as Alfred Pennyworth and Colin Farrell coming back as Oswald Cobblepot, also known as the Penguin.

The sequel has also added several new cast members, including Scarlett Johansson, Sebastian Stan, Brian Tyree Henry, Jayme Lawson, Charles Dance, Gil Perez-Abraham and Sebastian Koch.

The Batman Part II is being developed by Warner Bros. and DC Studios as part of the expanding DC film slate. Reeves is also returning as a writer and producer on the sequel.

Further details about when production will resume have not been announced. The studio has not indicated that Reeves’ temporary absence will lead to any changes to the film’s creative team.
