Netflix brings Kennedy Ryan’s 'Hoops' book series to TV

Netflix is developing 'Hoops', a drama series based on Kennedy Ryan’s bestselling basketball romance book trilogy

Netflix is developing Hoops, a new drama series based on Kennedy Ryan’s popular sports romance book series, Long Shot, Block Shot and Hook Shot.

The project has landed at Netflix after a competitive bidding process and is being developed with Ryan, Adrian Dukes, Will Packer Media, Chris Paul’s Ohh Dip!!! Entertainment and Tracey Baker-Simmons attached as producers.

Plot details for the Hoops TV series are currently being kept under wraps. The book trilogy combines professional basketball with stories involving relationships, personal healing and second-chance romance.

Dukes, who worked as a co-executive producer on All American, will write the series and serve as an executive producer. His other television credits include The Quad, Assisted Living, The Ricky Smiley Show and Prime Video’s Motorheads.

Will Packer and Sabrina Wind will executive produce for Will Packer Media. Chris Paul, CJ Paul and Jacqueline Taylor are also attached as executive producers for Ohh Dip!!! Entertainment, alongside Ryan and Baker-Simmons.

The Netflix project adds to Ryan’s growing presence in television. The author is currently under a first-look producing deal with Universal Television through her Scribe Chick Media banner.

Ryan is also executive producing and co-writing the pilot adaptation of her novel Before I Let Go, the first book in her Skyland series. Peacock ordered the series earlier this month.

Meanwhile, Ryan’s latest novel, Score, the second installment in her Hollywood Renaissance series, was published in May and became an instant New York Times bestseller.

With Hoops, Netflix is adding another adaptation of a bestselling romance property to its developing television slate. Further details, including casting, episode count and a potential release date, have not yet been announced.
