Tom Felton says he is excited to see Rupert Grint return as Ron Weasley on Broadway in 'Harry Potter'

Tom Felton says he is excited to see his former Harry Potter co-star Rupert Grint return as Ron Weasley in the Broadway production of Harry Potter and the Cursed Child.

Felton, who has played Draco Malfoy in the Broadway production for the past 10 months, said he contacted Grint as soon as he heard about his return to the role. Grint is set to begin playing Ron Weasley on Broadway in February.

"We are typically - and he will agree with me - pretty bad at our phone game, but when I heard the news I called him immediately and I'm so excited for him," Felton said.

"Who doesn't want to see Rupert Grint play Ron Weasley again? Come on!"

Felton, 38, said he did not offer Grint advice because the actor has already appeared on Broadway.

"I don't think he needs any advice from me. If anything, I would be taking it from him."

Felton added that Grint has a "Ron Weasley laissez-faire approach to these things".

The actors first worked together more than two decades ago on the Harry Potter films. Felton said his friendships with Grint, Daniel Radcliffe and Emma Watson have continued, describing the three as "best mates" and "family".

He said their support for his return as Draco has been "fantastic", although bringing the former cast members together is difficult because they are "usually in four different corners of the Earth".

Felton has also embraced the continued connection to Draco, despite originally believing he had finished playing the character after the films. He said the Harry Potter franchise had given him "a life I could never have imagined".

With HBO's television adaptation of the books also set to air later this year, Felton said the series could explore more material from the books than the films were able to include.

"We had two hours to fit in a lot of content and the wizarding world is vast, so it's exciting to know they can dive in deeper."

Felton has not ruled out playing Draco again, saying, "It's hard to say with any certainty what's to come."
