The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time remake gets November 5 release date

Nintendo has confirmed that The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time remake will launch on Nintendo Switch 2 on November 5, 2026, alongside a new trailer and an extended look at the updated game.

The release date was announced during the 30-minute Legend of Zelda 40th Anniversary Direct on September 8.

The remake revisits the 1998 Nintendo 64 classic with redesigned visuals, expanded environments and several gameplay changes.

The new footage showed a larger Kokiri Forest with additional pathways, denser vegetation and a mini-map. Nintendo also confirmed that some characters will receive additional dialogue, while characters other than Link will have voices during cutscenes.

The Great Deku Tree was also shown with updated lighting and textures. Producer Eiji Aonuma demonstrated the revised combat by fighting Deku Babas, although the dungeon’s boss was not shown.

Link’s movement has been updated as well. Players can now jump and sprint by tapping or holding the A button, replacing the original game’s more limited movement options.

The remake also expands areas of Hyrule Field and Hyrule Castle Town. Nintendo said loading screens between areas will remain in place to preserve the structure of the original game. Some locations that previously appeared only as backdrops can now be explored.

A new feature called Threads of Time will help players keep track of Link’s adventure between sessions. The Ocarina can also be played by humming its songs into the Nintendo Switch 2 microphone.

The Direct also featured an orchestral tour beginning in Tokyo on January 23, 2027, as well as details about the upcoming live-action The Legend of Zelda film.

The Ocarina of Time remake will cost $59.99 and launches exclusively on Nintendo Switch 2.
