'Widow’s Bay' leads early Emmys with eight wins as 'The Pitt' takes four

'Widow’s Bay' won eight early Emmys, while 'The Pitt' took four ahead of 78th Emmy Awards

Widow’s Bay led the early winners at the 78th Emmy Awards, taking eight trophies at Sunday’s ceremony, while The Pitt won four ahead of the main awards show on Sept. 14.

The Apple TV horror comedy, starring Matthew Rhys as the mayor of a small New England town dealing with a centuries-old curse, won awards for cinematography, sound, music and production design. Betty Gilpin also won best guest actress in a comedy for her role in the series.

The Pitt, this year’s leading nominee with 25 nominations after winning best drama for its first season, secured four awards in its second year.

Ernest Harden Jr. won best guest actor in a drama for playing Louie Cloverfield, an emergency room regular dealing with alcoholism.

“I am just on cloud 25,” Harden said backstage. “I’m not saying it’s a complete surprise because ‘The Pitt’ is such a powerful show to come from, but just to get it in your hands is unreal.”

DTF St. Louis won six awards in the limited series categories. David Harbour and Linda Cardellini both received their first Emmy Awards for their performances.

“Thank you to everybody who along the way through the years helped me get to this moment of a real dream come true,” Cardellini said while accepting her award.

The Television Academy has rebranded the former Creative Arts Emmys as the first two nights of the Emmy Awards. The ceremonies primarily recognise behind-the-scenes contributors, although several guest and supporting acting categories were moved from the main broadcast.

Rob Reiner posthumously won best guest actor in a comedy for The Bear. Reiner was killed alongside his wife, Michele Singer Reiner, in December.

Pluribus won four awards, while Spider-Noir received five despite being cancelled after one season. Shailene Woodley won her first Emmy for Paradise, and Mariska Hargitay received two awards for My Mom Jayne. Bad Bunny also won his first Emmy for his Super Bowl halftime show.
