Gary Oldman says the next James Bond has been chosen, while backing Slow Horses co-star Jack Lowden for 007.

Gary Oldman has claimed that Amazon MGM Studios has already chosen the next James Bond, while backing his Slow Horses co-star Jack Lowden for the role.

In an interview with Canada’s Global, Oldman said Lowden had been linked to the shortlist and suggested the decision had already been made.

“It’s been rumored that he’s on the shortlist. We’re going to find out pretty soon, aren’t we? Because they have picked him. They have made their choice, but they have not announced it yet. So my fingers are crossed for Jack.”

However, as reported by Deadline, it remains unclear whether Oldman meant Lowden had been selected as 007 or was referring more generally to Amazon MGM Studios choosing its next actor to portray Ian Fleming’s secret agent.

It was previously reported that auditions were taking place for James Bond, with producers Amy Pascal and David Heyman and director Denis Villeneuve involved in the process.

Harris Dickinson, Callum Turner and Jacob Elordi were among actors reported to fit the studio’s vision for Bond.

Oldman, who stars alongside Lowden in Slow Horses, has now publicly expressed his support for the Scottish actor.

His comments have added further interest to the casting process, although no official announcement has been made.
