Jared Leto has sold his former Los Angeles Air Force compound for $12 million, earning a $7 million profit

Jared Leto has sold his massive Los Angeles mansion for $12 million, nearly a decade after purchasing the unusual property for $5 million.

The actor and Thirty Seconds to Mars frontman reportedly sold the 14,649-square-foot estate in May. The transaction gave Leto an estimated $7 million gain before accounting for taxes, fees and other expenses.

The six-bedroom, five-bathroom property sits on approximately 1.4 acres and has a distinctive history. The Los Angeles compound was previously used as a U.S. Air Force installation and had connections to the country’s atomic bomb programme.

The property was also used during the Cold War for Army training films and Air Force newsreels. According to TMZ, those productions featured stars including Bob Hope, Jimmy Stewart, James Garner, Kim Novak and Gregory Peck.

The mansion includes several features suited to its history in film and military media. The main building has three 35-millimetre screening rooms, temperature-controlled film vaults and a full sound stage.

Leto’s sale comes during a period of increased scrutiny surrounding the actor. In July, the BBC released a documentary in which multiple women made allegations of sexual assault against him. Similar allegations had previously been reported by British newspapers.

Leto has strongly denied any wrongdoing in connection with the allegations.

The actor has largely stayed out of the public spotlight in recent months. The sale of his Los Angeles property has also prompted speculation about whether he intends to spend less time in the city or step back from Hollywood.

The $12 million transaction marks a significant change for Leto, who had owned the historic Los Angeles compound since 2015.
