Netflix has announced a new three-part documentary series about the life and legacy of late Friends star Matthew Perry, with The One About Matthew Perry set to premiere on October 27, 2026.

The documentary will offer an in-depth look at Perry’s life and career, from his early years as a comedian to his rise to international fame as Chandler Bing on the hugely popular sitcom Friends. It will also explore the personal struggles he faced away from the spotlight, including his long battle with addiction.

Directed by Emmy Award winner Mary Robertson, the three-part series will feature intimate testimonies from people who knew Perry personally. His sister Mia Perry Bowick is among those expected to share her memories, alongside friends and others from his inner circle.

Netflix says the documentary will also include never-before-seen photographs and videos from the Perry family’s private archives, giving viewers a more personal perspective on the actor beyond his public image as one of television’s most recognisable comedy stars.

The series aims to present a broader portrait of Perry, highlighting both his comedic talent and the difficulties he experienced throughout his life. The documentary’s official description focuses on the contrast between the larger-than-life celebrity audiences knew and the private battles he faced.

Perry died on October 28, 2023, aged 54. His death was attributed to the acute effects of ketamine, with other contributing factors also reported. His passing prompted renewed attention to his decades-long struggles with addiction, which he had openly discussed in his 2022 memoir, Friends, Lovers, and the Big Terrible Thing.

The One About Matthew Perry is scheduled to arrive on Netflix on October 27, 2026, almost three years after the actor’s death. The series is expected to give audiences an intimate look at the man behind one of television’s most beloved characters while revisiting the career and personal experiences that shaped his life.
