Baker Mayfield has reunited with his extended family nearly two years after he and his wife, Emily, filed a lawsuit alleging that his father and brother failed to repay $12 million.

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers quarterback, 31, revealed the family reconciliation in an interview with the Tampa Bay Times published Aug. 18. Mayfield said he has reconnected with his relatives over the past several months and described the progress as positive.

“In the past few months, I’ve been reconnected with my family,” Mayfield said. “It’s been good.”

The NFL star and Emily filed a lawsuit in November 2024 against his father, James Mayfield, and brother, Matt Mayfield. The couple alleged that money had been taken from their accounts and had not been repaid under a previous settlement agreement.

The dispute followed an August 2023 audit that reportedly found unauthorised transfers from accounts between 2018 and 2021 to businesses connected to Mayfield’s father and brother.

Despite the financial dispute, Mayfield said he has chosen to forgive his family and move forward. He explained that becoming a father again helped bring the relatives back together.

Mayfield and Emily welcomed their second child, son Maverick Thorne Mayfield, on April 16, 2026. Their daughter, Kova, also played a role in reconnecting the family, with Mayfield saying his relatives met her around her first birthday.

“What’s in the past is in the past,” Mayfield said, adding that the door remains open and the family has made progress.

The reconciliation comes as Mayfield prepares for another NFL season with the Buccaneers. He is entering the final year of his three-year, $100 million contract while balancing football with life as a father of two young children.
