Mattel’s latest collector release recreates Monroe’s famous pink gown and arrives alongside a major centennial tribute

Mattel has unveiled a new Barbie Signature doll inspired by Marilyn Monroe, marking what would have been the Hollywood icon’s 100th birthday in 2026. The collectible arrived on August 18 and draws directly from one of Monroe’s most recognisable screen appearances, her performance of "Diamonds Are a Girl’s Best Friend" in the 1953 musical comedy Gentlemen Prefer Blondes.

The release gives collectors another chance to own a Barbie tied to Monroe’s enduring image, while also placing the actress at the centre of a major centennial celebration. Monroe was born on June 1, 1926, and became one of the defining stars of Hollywood’s studio era through films including The Seven Year Itch, Some Like It Hot and Gentlemen Prefer Blondes.

The new doll recreates the visual language of Monroe’s famous pink gown from the "Diamonds Are a Girl’s Best Friend" sequence. Barbie wears a floor length pink dress featuring dramatic black detailing and an oversized bow. Long pink opera gloves and sparkling jewellery complete the ensemble, while her platinum blonde hair is styled in short, voluminous waves associated with Monroe’s signature appearance.

The doll also features red lipstick, dramatic eye makeup and Monroe’s distinctive beauty mark. Mattel developed the collectible in collaboration with The Estate of Marilyn Monroe LLC, with the design intended to honour the actress’s screen career, style and wider cultural influence.

The Barbie Signature Marilyn Monroe Doll is priced at $81. It became available on August 18, 2026, through Mattel’s collectible channels and other retail outlets, although availability can vary by market. The doll is packaged as a collector piece and includes a Certificate of Authenticity and a stand.

The design team includes Robert Best and Linda Kyaw, who are credited as doll designers, while Diana Leto handled the packaging design. The doll uses Mattel’s Aphrodite face sculpt and Model Muse body type, details that will be particularly relevant to collectors who follow the company’s premium Barbie releases.

The Marilyn Monroe tribute is also part of a much longer history between the actress and the Barbie brand. Mattel has previously released Monroe inspired dolls, including editions based on different looks from her career.
