Paramount Pictures is reportedly developing a new sequel in The Godfather franchise centred on Connie Corleone, marking the first major cinematic expansion of the iconic crime saga in decades.

The upcoming film will adapt Connie, a new novel written by bestselling author Adriana Trigiani in collaboration with the Mario Puzo estate. The story is expected to retell the Corleone family saga through Connie’s perspective, exploring her rise and influence within the mafia dynasty.

Connie Corleone was originally portrayed by Talia Shire in the classic trilogy directed by Francis Ford Coppola. However, reports suggest Coppola is unlikely to return to write or direct the new adaptation, having previously stated he was finished with the franchise.

The film is scheduled to launch alongside the novel’s release in autumn 2027 and is expected to become the franchise’s first female-led story. According to Trigiani, the narrative will focus on Connie forging her own identity and power in a world dominated by men.

Widely regarded as one of cinema’s greatest films, The Godfather franchise remains one of Hollywood’s most influential crime sagas more than five decades after the original movie’s release.
