PESHAWAR:

Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Sohail Afridi on Thursday said a "deliberate campaign" is being run to create a false narrative of corruption against the provincial government, adding that anyone with credible evidence should present it to his office for impartial scrutiny and swift action.

Addressing the provincial cabinet meeting, the chief minister, welcomed the newly inducted ministers, advisers and special assistants, and extended his best wishes for their future responsibilities.

Afrdi emphasised that his government remained fully committed to transparent accountability and was prepared to investigate any allegation of wrongdoing through an objective and evidence based process.

He directed all provincial departments, ministers, advisers, special assistants and relevant administrative officers to initiate legal action and issue notices within three days over what he termed baseless allegations against their institutions.

He further noted that administrative action will be taken against responsible officers who fail to initiate proceedings within the stipulated timeframe.

The chief minister stated that where no wrongdoing exists, no individual or organisation should be allowed to spread misinformation or make baseless allegations.

He also directed the health department to undertake a comprehensive review of allegations recently raised during a news conference by certain members of the medical community and to place the findings, supporting evidence and conclusions before the public.

He reaffirmed that accountability would be applied uniformly and that any instance of corruption established through due process would invite strict action, irrespective of the individual concerned.

The cabinet also granted in principle approval for the merger of the Malakand Levies into the Police Force.

A cabinet committee was tasked with examining the financial, legal and administrative dimensions of the proposed merger and submitting recommendations.

Meanwhile, the cabinet strongly condemned the deaths of two schoolchildren in a drone related explosion in Shahi Tangi, Bajaur.

It also condemned the treatment meted out to the chief minister, provincial parliamentarians and other elected representatives in Islamabad by the federal government, describing it as contrary to the spirit of national cohesion and democratic norms.

On Tuesday, Afridi, along with PTI leaders and lawmakers, was stopped in Islamabad while attempting to meet party founder Imran Khan.

The chief minister stated that such actions foster division and intolerance and are inconsistent with the respect due to elected public representatives.
