Netflix has removed an official Devil May Cry T-shirt from its online store after fans noticed the name of one of the franchise’s main characters had been misspelt.

The shirt featured artwork of brothers Dante and Vergil from Capcom’s Devil May Cry series. However, Vergil’s name appeared as “Virgil” on the design, prompting criticism from fans after screenshots spread online.

The product listing was later removed, but the mistake had already gained attention across social media. One fan posted on X, “THEY SPELLED HIS NAME WRONG ON THIS OFFICIAL SHIRT BROTHER WHAT.”

Other users continued referencing the typo in replies to promotional posts for the series. One comment read, “Can't wait to see ‘Virgil’ in action”.

The incident drew attention because Vergil has remained one of the franchise’s best-known characters across several major releases, including Devil May Cry 3, Devil May Cry 4 Special Edition and Devil May Cry 5.

Fans noted that the character’s name has consistently been spelt the same way throughout the games.

The timing of the merchandise error also coincided with the release of Devil May Cry season 2 on Netflix, where Vergil takes a more central role in the storyline.

Netflix launched the animated adaptation in April 2025 and renewed it for a second season shortly after its debut.

While the series secured another season quickly, some viewers have previously questioned how closely the adaptation reflected the original games.
