Antony Starr says Thanos tops his villain list, praising the character’s twisted logic

Antony Starr is known for playing one of television’s most chilling villains as Homelander, but when asked to name his favorite screen villain, the actor pointed to a Marvel heavyweight.

Speaking recently, Starr said his pick is Thanos, praising the complexity behind the character’s motives rather than the destruction he leaves behind.

“He was doing a horrific thing, but he had such a good philosophy behind it about balancing the universe,” Starr said. “And there’s a little part of me that’s like, ‘He’s got a pretty good point.’”

Thanos, portrayed by Josh Brolin in the Avengers: Infinity War and Avengers: Endgame, became one of the most memorable villains in modern blockbuster cinema for exactly that reason, his plan was monstrous, but his logic felt unsettlingly coherent to many viewers.

For Starr, that moral tension appears to be what makes a villain compelling. It is also part of what has made Homelander such a standout figure on The Boys, characters who are terrifying not only because of what they do, but because they can justify it to themselves.
