The upcoming biopic Michael is set to bring the life of Michael Jackson to the big screen, with new details highlighting its release date, cast, trailers, and the controversies surrounding the project.

The film is scheduled to hit theaters on April 24, 2026, following multiple delays from earlier planned release dates. It is directed by Antoine Fuqua and produced by Graham King, the Oscar-winning producer behind Bohemian Rhapsody.

Leading the film is Jaafar Jackson, the real-life nephew of Michael Jackson, who makes his feature film debut portraying the King of Pop. The supporting cast includes Colman Domingo as Joe Jackson, Nia Long as Katherine Jackson, and Miles Teller as music executive John Branca.

The film will chronicle Jackson’s rise from his early days with the Jackson 5 to his global superstardom, blending recreations of iconic performances with a look into his personal life and creative process.

Trailers released so far showcase the Jackson family dynamics, including Joe Jackson pushing his sons toward success, as well as Michael’s ambition to become the biggest star in the world. The footage also highlights signature moments such as the moonwalk and performances inspired by hits like “Thriller.”

However, the film has also faced significant controversy. Critics, including filmmaker Dan Reed, have accused the project of presenting a softened or “whitewashed” version of Jackson’s life, particularly regarding past abuse allegations. Jackson’s daughter, Paris Jackson, has also criticized the portrayal, raising concerns about accuracy. Legal issues tied to past settlements reportedly led to script changes and rewrites during production.

Despite the backlash, Michael remains one of the most anticipated music biopics in recent years, with its combination of high-profile talent, family involvement, and the enduring legacy of Michael Jackson continuing to generate global interest ahead of its theatrical release.
