Comedian and actor Laura Clery has shared details of a household accident that left her hospitalised after a 600-pound fridge reportedly fell on her while she was alone at home with her two children.

Clery described the incident as the “most terrifying night of my life as a single mom” in a post shared on Instagram on May 21.

The comedian posted video clips showing her being carried away on a stretcher and later speaking to firefighters inside an ambulance.

She later explained the incident in greater detail on her Patreon page. According to Clery, the large French-door refrigerator in her kitchen was meant to be mounted into the wall.

She said she noticed it shifting after her son climbed onto it and attempted to push it back into place before it toppled over.

“Not in a way where I could catch it or jump out of the way,” she wrote. “It just fell. The full weight of it slammed me backward into the kitchen island, pinning my lower back and hips.”

Clery said she was unable to move the appliance and struggled to breathe while trapped beneath it. “It felt like pushing against a building,” she wrote.

The comedian said she managed to retrieve her phone from her pocket and call emergency services. According to her account, three firefighters were required to lift the fridge off her.

After being taken to hospital, Clery said doctors were surprised she had not suffered broken bones. She later confirmed she had returned home and that her children were unharmed.

“I’m bruised, I’m sore, it hurts to walk,” she wrote, adding that she could not stop thinking about “how differently this could have gone”.

In a Facebook post, Clery also stated that she plans to sue the contractors who installed the appliance, alleging it “was NOT properly mounted” and describing the incident as “negligence”.
