Charlie Day suggests cast for Wario for Super Mario Movie 3
Charlie Day names Danny DeVito as ideal Wario casting for potential Super Mario Movie 3

Charlie Day has shared his preferred casting choice for Wario in a potential third Super Mario film, suggesting his It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia co-star Danny DeVito for the role.
Day, who voices Luigi in The Super Mario Galaxy Movie, discussed future casting possibilities during an interview, where he described DeVito as a strong fit for the character. “Danny [DeVito] would fit so well in this universe, and he would be a good Wario, I think,” he said.
The discussion comes as audiences continue to speculate about the introduction of Wario, a long-standing character from the Super Mario franchise who has yet to appear in the current film series.
First introduced in 1992’s Super Mario Land 2: 6 Golden Coins, Wario is typically portrayed as a greedy and boisterous rival to Mario, often occupying an anti-hero role in the games.
Other cast members also shared their own casting ideas. Anya Taylor-Joy, who voices Princess Peach, suggested Jessica Lange as a potential addition, while Keegan-Michael Key, the voice of Toad, proposed Chloe Moretz for the role of Princess Daisy, noting her “remarkable voice”.
Rumours surrounding Wario’s debut have circulated since before the release of The Super Mario Galaxy Movie, with fans proposing a range of actors, including Pedro Pascal, John Goodman, Danny McBride and Danny Trejo. DeVito has remained a consistent favourite among these suggestions.
DeVito is known for roles that feature exaggerated and comedic traits, including Frank Reynolds in It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia and The Penguin in Batman Returns.
He has also expressed interest in joining the franchise, stating in a previous interview, “I'm gonna take them to the cleaners but [tell them] that I should be in the movie.”
No official announcement has been made regarding a third Super Mario film.
