Chelsea Handler is opening up about a troubling real estate experience, claiming that a home she purchased from Robert F. Kennedy Jr. and Cheryl Hines turned out to be “a disaster.”

Speaking on her Dear Chelsea podcast, the comedian said she bought the Brentwood, Los Angeles property for around $5.9 million in 2021 — but later discovered serious issues that made it unlivable.

Handler revealed that a home inspector told her the property had “the most toxic environment” and warned that she wouldn’t be able to live there for at least two years due to structural and environmental problems.

“I still have not lived in this house,” she said, adding that the situation was so severe it required major repairs.

According to Handler, the problems included foundational issues and even an illegal structure on the property that had to be removed. She also said she was unaware at the time of purchase that the sellers were Kennedy Jr. and Hines, as the deal was conducted through trusts.

The comedian didn’t hold back when discussing the situation, criticisng Kennedy Jr, who currently serves as U.S. Secretary of Health and Human Services, and questioning how the issues with the home went unnoticed.

Handler also recalled receiving a note from Hines after the sale offering help, which she found frustrating given the condition of the house. Despite her strong words, she ultimately said she has moved on from the experience.

Representatives for Kennedy Jr and Hines have not publicly responded to Handler’s claims.
