KARACHI:

The construction of the road from the meteorological department to the Super Highway which was abandoned by the City District Government Karachi (CDGK) two years ago along with six other development schemes is back on track.

The city has also decided to construct the Mehran Highway, a seven kilometre strip from Hospital Chowrangi to Cattle Colony. EDO Works and Services Altaf G Memon told The Express Tribune that tenders for the highway are being invited.

The project was estimated to be worth Rs188 million and the CDGK would also construct a road to the Machine Tool Factory.

This is the first development project to be taken up by the city government since 2009 as the 2010 to 2011 budgets did not have money for any new schemes.

“The infrastructure in the area is very poor and bringing the goods from Port Qasim to the city causes a problem,” he said. “The roads should be repaired.”

The Mehran Highway will prove to be productive for trade, he added. Taking up old and new, small and big development projects will create jobs and benefit industry.

The EDO added that funds worth Rs1.14 billion had been arranged for the development schemes that were suspended two years ago.

..and everyone questions why people of KHI still vote for MQM, because it was only during the time of MQM that things got done in KARACHI.
