KARACHI:

Police authorities have been directed to formulate a comprehensive and coordinated security plan for Eidul Fitr 2026 by Sindh Home Minister Ziaul Hassan Lanjar.

The minister instructed police to prepare the security strategy at the police range level while keeping the prevailing security situation in view, ensuring strict implementation to maintain law and order across the province. He emphasised close coordination with other law-enforcement agencies and intelligence organisations to ensure effective arrangements.

Under the plan, foolproof security measures will be implemented at all major mosques, imambargahs, Eidgahs and other open spaces where Eid prayers will be offered. Security will also be ensured at places of worship belonging to the Aga Khani, Bohri and Ismaili communities, as well as Ahmadi worship places.

The directive further calls for heightened security at public locations including shopping centres, Eid markets, railway stations and bus terminals as part of the Eid contingency plan.

According to the minister, all SPs, SDPOs and SHOs will ensure extensive mobile and motorcycle patrols during the three days of Eid. Patrol routes will specifically cover Eid prayer congregations, mosques and imambargahs to strengthen security.

Lanjar also instructed that surveillance teams be formed at the police station level and deployed at shopping centres, crowded public places, parking areas and around open venues where Eid prayers will be held.

In addition, district SSPs have been directed to work with community elders and prominent political and religious figures to prevent objectionable or offensive wall chalking, posters, pamphlets and literature. Strict legal action will be taken against those found involved in such activities.

The minister further ordered the establishment of central control rooms at the police range level to monitor security arrangements during the three days of Eid. These control rooms will remain in constant contact with other police wireless control centres and maintain a record of the overall security situation while issuing timely instructions to further strengthen security where necessary.
