Disney+ is developing a new live-action series centered on one of its most iconic fairy characters. The streaming platform has greenlit Tink, a project about Tinker Bell that has been in various stages of development for more than a decade.

According to sources, the series is now considered a high priority project at Disney+. Friday Night Lights alums Liz Heldens and Bridget Carpenter have signed on to write and executive produce. The project comes through 20th Television for the streaming service.

Disney has not released an official logline for Tink, but the character has a lengthy development history at the studio. In 2010, the project was first announced as a live-action romantic comedy with Elizabeth Banks attached to star and Adam Shankman, Jennifer Gibgot and McG producing. By 2015, Reese Witherspoon was attached to star in another iteration, then billed as a live-action film based on the Peter Pan character. More recently, Yara Shahidi portrayed Tinker Bell in the 2023 live-action film Peter Pan and Wendy.

Former Disney Channels Worldwide president Gary Marsh is also attached to the project. Marsh departed his role as president and chief creative officer of Disney Branded Television in 2021 to focus on producing, with Tink mentioned at that time as one of the projects he was pursuing. Quinn Haberman of Selfish Mermaid serves as an executive producer as well.

Heldens brings extensive television experience to the series. She currently serves as co-showrunner on ABC's Will Trent, with previous credits including Boston Public, Mercy, Deception, The Passage, Camp, The Big Leap, The Orville and The Dropout.

Carpenter's television credits include Only Murders in the Building, Parenthood, Westworld, The Red Road and 11.22.63. She is also an accomplished playwright whose work has been produced at Steppenwolf Theatre Company, The Public Theater and Berkeley Repertory Theatre, among others.

Deadline first reported the development news. A premiere date for Tink has not yet been announced.
