Man arrested in Singapore over alleged leak of 'The Legend of Aang' film, facing up to seven years in prison

A 26-year-old man has been arrested in Singapore over allegations that he illegally accessed and leaked The Legend of Aang: The Last Airbender.
The unreleased animated film is linked to the wider Avatar franchise, according to reports from The Straits Times.
Authorities say the suspect allegedly gained unauthorized access to a media server, downloaded the film, and distributed portions of it online. A copy of the movie was reportedly recovered from his electronic devices during the investigation.
Singapore police confirmed that offences involving unauthorised access to computer systems carry severe penalties under local law, including up to seven years in prison, a fine of up to $50,000, or both.
The case is linked to a wider leak controversy involving early footage of the film appearing on social media platforms, including X (formerly Twitter). Investigators believe the leak may have originated from a user account associated with Singapore-based activity, though multiple sources and claims remain under review.
Earlier reports suggested the footage was initially circulated after claims of accidental sharing or external hacking, though industry sources later indicated no breach occurred within the studio’s internal systems.
The film, produced under Paramount’s animated Avatar universe, had originally been slated for theatrical release before being shifted to a streaming-exclusive rollout on Paramount+.
The leak has sparked debate within the animation community, with creators and voice actors urging fans not to engage with pirated material and calling for stronger protections for unreleased content.
Investigations remain ongoing as authorities continue to trace the source and distribution network behind the leak.
