'House of the Dragon' star Fabien Frankel may join 'Beach Read' cast
Fabien Frankel sparks 'Beach Read' casting rumors after being spotted with Gus's lines highlighted.

The speculation surrounding who will play Gus Everett in the upcoming "Beach Read" film adaptation has reached a fever pitch, with House of the Dragon star Fabien Frankel emerging as the leading contender.
Eagle-eyed fans spotted the British actor holding a Beach Read script in an Instagram Story posted in early March 2026. The script appeared to have Gus's lines highlighted, sending BookTok into a frenzy and sparking widespread speculation that Frankel has either been offered the role or is already in negotiations to play the brooding literary novelist opposite Phoebe Dynevor's January Andrews.

Neither Frankel, author Emily Henry, nor writer-director Yulin Kuang have officially confirmed the casting. However, the apparent reveal has excited fans who have long envisioned the actor in the role. Frankel is best known for his breakout performance as Ser Criston Cole in HBO's "House of the Dragon" and recently starred in the British crime drama "The Task."
Dynevor's casting as January was confirmed by Deadline in February 2026, with the Bridgerton alumna set to headline the 20th Century Studios production. The actress brings her own romance genre credentials to the project, having won hearts as Daphne Bridgerton in Netflix's hit period drama.
Kuang, a romance novelist who published "How to End a Love Story" in 2024, has been attached to the project as writer and director since 20th Century Studios acquired the rights in April 2023. She previously served as a co-screenwriter on another Emily Henry adaptation, Netflix's "People We Meet on Vacation," which premiered in January 2026.
Henry praised Kuang's first draft of the Beach Read script as "fantastic" in a 2024 Variety interview, noting that her approach "feels really different and special." The author emphasized her trust in the creative team, stating her main goal is "to represent the readers' interests."
No official release date has been announced for Beach Read, which remains listed as "in development" on IMDb. The 2020 novel, which launched Henry's adult rom-com career, follows January and Gus as they strike a bet to write books in each other's genres, leading to an opposites-attract romance. If Frankel's casting is confirmed, production could move forward quickly, with a potential 2027 premiere if it follows a similar trajectory to People We Meet on Vacation.
