Castlevania: Belmont’s Curse announced for 2026 by Konami and Dead Cells developers
Castlevania: Belmont’s Curse launches in 2026 from Konami, Evil Empire and Motion Twin

Konami has announced Castlevania: Belmont’s Curse, a new 2D sidescrolling entry in the long-running series, set to launch in 2026.
The game was revealed during the February PlayStation State of Play and marks the first new 2D Castlevania title in several years.
Development is a collaboration between Konami and indie studios Evil Empire and Motion Twin, the teams known for their work on Dead Cells.
Dead Cells drew inspiration from Castlevania both visually and mechanically, and previously featured a dedicated Castlevania expansion. Evil Empire supported Motion Twin with post-launch updates for Dead Cells and is now partnering with Konami on Belmont’s Curse.
Castlevania: Belmont’s Curse is set 23 years after the events of Castlevania III: Dracula’s Curse, which originally released in 1989 on the NES.
The new title continues the franchise’s 2D action-platforming roots, a style closely associated with the so-called Metroidvania genre that Castlevania helped popularise.
The announcement comes during Castlevania’s 40th anniversary year, marking four decades since the debut of the series. While specific gameplay details were not outlined during the reveal, the project is positioned as a return to the franchise’s traditional side-scrolling format.
Castlevania: Belmont’s Curse will release on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, Nintendo Switch and PC in 2026. Further information, including a confirmed release date and extended gameplay footage, is expected at a later stage.
