The long-running Japanese superhero franchise Super Sentai, which served as the foundation for the global Power Rangers phenomenon, has aired its final episode after more than 50 years on television.

The series concluded on February 8, 2026, with the final episode of its most recent installment, No. 1 Sentai Gozinger. The finale marked the end of the entire Super Sentai franchise, which first debuted in 1975 and produced 49 seasons during its 51-year run.

Super Sentai is widely recognized as the source material for Power Rangers, which launched in the United States in 1993 with Mighty Morphin Power Rangers. While the two franchises differed in casting and target audiences, the American series reused action footage and concepts from its Japanese counterpart, helping establish Power Rangers as a major force in children’s television.

Over the years, the Power Rangers brand changed ownership multiple times, moving from creator Haim Saban to The Walt Disney Company, returning to Saban in 2010, and later being acquired by Hasbro. The most recent installment, Power Rangers Cosmic Fury, premiered on Netflix in September 2023.

Despite the conclusion of Super Sentai, reports indicate the franchise may not be permanently finished. Tokyo Weekender reported that Toei could consider a reboot or spiritual successor featuring a new superhero team. Additionally, Toei’s Head Producer of Character Business, Shinichiro Shirakura, told Anime News Network that the series is currently on hiatus, allowing creators time to reassess the franchise’s future.

Meanwhile, the end of Super Sentai does not signal the conclusion of Power Rangers. ScreenRant reported that a new Power Rangers television series is currently in development as a full reboot, with Percy Jackson and the Olympians showrunners Dan Shotz and Jonathan E. Steinberg attached to the project. The upcoming series is expected to exist independently from the previous Power Rangers timeline, and Toei is not involved. No casting details or release date have been announced.
