The first trailer for Exit 8 has been released, offering audiences an early look at the upcoming psychological thriller adapted from the globally popular video game created by Kotake Create.

Directed by acclaimed Japanese filmmaker Genki Kawamura, the film is scheduled for a nationwide theatrical release on April 10.

The story follows a man, portrayed by Kazunari Ninomiya, who becomes trapped in what appears to be an endless subway corridor. To escape, he must follow a strict set of rules: carefully observe his surroundings, turn back immediately if he notices anything unusual, and continue forward only when nothing seems out of place. However, even the smallest oversight sends him back to the beginning, intensifying the suspense and psychological tension central to the film’s premise.

Alongside Ninomiya, the cast includes Yamato Kochi, Naru Asanuma, Kotone Hanase and Nana Komatsu. The screenplay was written by Kawamura and Kentaro Hirase, while production credits include Yuto Sakata, Kenji Yamada, Akita Yamamoto and Taichi Ito.

Exit 8 first premiered in the Midnight section of the 2025 Cannes Film Festival, where it received strong early reviews for its immersive storytelling and atmospheric direction. Speaking previously about the adaptation, Kawamura explained that his goal was not simply to recreate the video game, but to craft a cinematic experience that blurs the boundaries between interactive media and film.

Kawamura is known for directing A Hundred Flowers (2022) and the short film Duality (2018), both of which showcased his distinctive visual style.

With its minimalist setting, suspense-driven narrative and loyal fanbase from the gaming world, Exit 8 is shaping up to be one of the most anticipated video game adaptations of the year.
