The first trailer for "Spider-Man: Brand New Day" has shattered records, amassing 718.6 million views in its first 24 hours, Sony announced Wednesday.

According to the studio, which cited market research firm WaveMetrix, the trailer took just eight hours to surpass the 365 million views achieved by "Deadpool & Wolverine" two years ago. That previous record-holder included more than 100 million viewers who watched during the Super Bowl broadcast.

The new milestone easily tops the first trailer for 2021's "Spider-Man: No Way Home," which reached 355.5 million views in its opening day. That film went on to become Sony's highest-grossing release in history with $1.9 billion globally.

Tom Holland returns as Peter Parker in the latest installment of the beloved superhero franchise, scheduled for release July 31. The film marks a new chapter for the character following the universe-altering events of "No Way Home."

Destin Daniel Cretton, who directed Marvel's "Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings," takes the helm for "Brand New Day." The cast includes franchise newcomers Jon Bernthal, Mark Ruffalo and Sadie Sink, joining returning stars Zendaya and Jacob Batalon.

Chris McKenna and Erik Sommers, who have written previous Spider-Man installments, penned the script.

Holland previously told The Hollywood Reporter about his decision to return: "It's a collaborative process. The first few meetings were about, 'Why would we do this again?' And I think we found the reason why. I'm really, really happy with where we're at in terms of the creative."

While Marvel's "Avengers: Doomsday" recently generated over 1 billion combined views across four trailers, that total accumulated over time rather than within a single 24-hour period, making "Brand New Day's" achievement a standalone record.
