Noah Wyle took home the Golden Globe for best actor in a television drama on Sunday night, calling the recognition a “truly humbling moment” as he accepted the award for his performance in HBO Max’s medical series The Pitt.

Wyle was presented the trophy at the 2026 Golden Globe Awards by Priyanka Chopra Jonas and Blackpink’s Lalisa Manoban. In his acceptance speech, the actor expressed gratitude to his fellow nominees, his family and healthcare workers around the world.

“What a truly humbling moment this is,” Wyle said from the stage. “I’m incredibly grateful and indebted to so many people who have inspired me over the years, many of whom I have the honour of being nominated alongside tonight.”

The actor, who leads The Pitt as senior attending physician Dr. Michael “Robby” Robinavitch, was nominated alongside Sterling K. Brown (Paradise), Diego Luna (Andor), Gary Oldman (Slow Horses), Mark Ruffalo (Task) and Adam Scott (Severance).

Reflecting on his upbringing, Wyle credited his family for shaping his values. “I was raised in a family that put a high priority on art, curiosity and service,” he said, before thanking the healthcare workers who inspired the series.

He also gave a personal shout-out to his wife, Sara, noting that the ceremony fell on her birthday.

Backstage in the press room, Wyle expanded on the motivations behind The Pitt, explaining that the show emerged during the COVID-19 pandemic as a response to the challenges facing the American healthcare system.

“We started talking about what was happening in healthcare in America during the pandemic,” Wyle said. “There was a sense that there were two very different systems at play, one for the affluent and another for people living in certain regions or communities.”

He added that the series aims to highlight the pressures faced by medical professionals, from staffing shortages to misinformation and systemic inequities.

“We wanted to put the spotlight back on first responders and what they’ve been dealing with for the last five or six years,” he said, “and hopefully contribute to conversations about how the system can better support them.”

Wyle’s Golden Globe victory continues a strong awards season run. Earlier this month, he won the Critics’ Choice Award for best actor in a drama series and previously claimed the Emmy for best lead actor in a drama series in September.

The 83rd Golden Globe Awards were hosted by Nikki Glaser and held at the Beverly Hilton Hotel in Los Angeles.
