NASA has revealed the official wake-up playlist selected by the Artemis II crew, offering insight into the music astronauts listen to during missions far from Earth.

The playlist was shared via social media, continuing a long-standing tradition of using music to start astronauts’ days in orbit.

The Artemis II crew includes Commander Reid Wiseman, Pilot Victor Glover, and Mission Specialists Christina Koch and Jeremy Hansen.

According to NASA, each track was chosen by the crew members themselves as part of a practice that dates back more than 50 years.

“You asked for it. Here it is. The official Artemis II wake-up song playlist,” NASA wrote on Instagram. “Each track was selected by the Moon crew, continuing a tradition that started more than 50 years ago.”

The playlist begins with ‘Sleepyhead’ by Young & Sick and includes a range of artists and genres.

Other tracks featured include ‘Green Light (feat. André 3000)’ by John Legend and André 3000, ‘Pink Pony Club’ by Chappell Roan, and ‘Tokyo Drifting’ by Glass Animals and Denzel Curry.

The selection also includes ‘Under Pressure’ by Queen and David Bowie, alongside additional songs from Freddy Jones Band, CeeLo Green, Mandisa and TobyMac, and Charley Crockett.

Artists reacted publicly to their inclusion in the playlist. Young & Sick commented, “Thank you sooooo much for having me aboard!! My life will never be the same,” while Glass Animals wrote, “This is the coolest thing that’s ever happened to me in my life ever.”

Denzel Curry posted, “To infinity and beyond muthafucka,” and described himself as “the First Rapper Played in Space.”

The Artemis II mission launched on April 1 and is scheduled to conclude with a Pacific Ocean splashdown off San Diego. The mission also set a record for the farthest distance travelled by humans from Earth.
