What we know about 'The Boroughs', Duffer Brothers’ upcoming Netflix series
'The Boroughs' is a new Netflix sci-fi series executive-produced by the Duffer Brothers and set for release this year

Following the conclusion of Stranger Things after nearly a decade, Matt and Ross Duffer are preparing to return to Netflix with The Boroughs, a new science fiction series expected to premiere later this year.
While the brothers are best known as the creators of Stranger Things, their involvement in this project is as executive producers through their Upside Down Pictures banner.
The Boroughs was created by Jeffrey Addiss and Will Matthews and is directed by Ben Taylor. According to the official description, the series “follows a group who band together at a retirement home to stop a monster who threatens to steal their time.”
The premise marks a shift from the teenage focus of Stranger Things, placing older characters at the centre of a supernatural narrative.
The series features a prominent ensemble cast including Alfred Molina, Geena Davis, Bill Pullman and Alfre Woodard. Additional cast members include Clarke Peters, Denis O’Hare, Jena Malone, Carlos Miranda, Seth Numrich and Alice Kremelberg. Netflix has released initial images from the show, offering a first look at the setting and characters.
Although the Duffer Brothers are not serving as showrunners, their association with the project has drawn attention from audiences familiar with their previous work.
Online reactions have highlighted interest in both the concept and the cast, with several fans on X describing the premise as unusual and noting the involvement of veteran actors.
The Boroughs is one of several projects connected to the Duffers currently in development.
They are also producing Something Very Bad is Going to Happen, a series centred on an engaged couple in the week before their wedding, and the animated series Stranger Things: Tales From ’85, which is scheduled to arrive on Netflix in 2026.
