Princess Kate, the Princess of Wales, made an unexpected and heartfelt comment about her personal cancer journey during a surprise visit to Charing Cross Hospital in west London with her husband, Prince William.

The unannounced stop on January 8, 2026 marked one of the first times Kate openly referenced her own health struggles while engaging with patients and volunteers.

During their visit, aimed at highlighting the work of NHS staff and volunteers, particularly amid increased winter pressures, a volunteer spoke about how long patients and visitors often spend in chemotherapy treatment rooms.

In response, Kate empathised, saying, “I know. We know,” while gently touching William’s arm. Her comment was seen as a poignant acknowledgment of her own experience with cancer treatment, which she publicly disclosed in March 2024.

Kate, 43, announced in 2024 that she was undergoing treatment for an undisclosed form of cancer, later confirming in September 2024 that she had completed chemotherapy. By January 2025, she announced with relief that she was in remission, expressing gratitude for the care she received and the support of well‑wishers throughout her health journey.

The Princess of Wales’s emotional remark during the hospital visit came as she and Prince William, both 43, met staff, volunteers, and patients to hear first‑hand about the challenges faced by those receiving care. William also referenced their different experiences with hospitals, noting his work with the air ambulance service and Kate’s personal journey through treatment.

The couple’s visit occurred ahead of Kate’s 44th birthday on January 9, and after their children, Prince George, Princess Charlotte, and Prince Louis, had returned to school following a holiday break. The unscripted moment of empathy with the volunteer stood out as a rare and candid insight into Kate’s recovery and continued resilience.
