KARACHI:

A teenage boy was shot dead by robbers during a mugging attempt in New Karachi, turning a night of celebration into tragedy for his family.

The incident occurred near Rizwan Mosque in Sector 5-L, where unidentified motorcycle-riding assailants opened fire during a robbery attempt, killing 18-year-old Saad Javed on the spot. His body was shifted to Abbasi Shaheed Hospital by an Edhi ambulance, where his death was confirmed.

According to SHO Bilal Colony Anwar, the killing took place when Saad was standing in a street near his house. The suspects approached him and attempted to snatch his belongings. When Saad resisted and tried to save his mobile phone, which he had purchased on instalments, the assailants opened fire. He sustained fatal bullet injuries and died before medical assistance could arrive.

Police said the attackers fled the scene after the shooting, taking the mobile phone with them. Evidence has been collected from the crime scene, and efforts are underway to trace and arrest the suspects.

Speaking to reporters at the hospital, the victim's father said the family had been celebrating the engagement ceremony of Saad's elder brother at the time of the incident.

"Saad had stepped outside to invite friends for dinner when our happiness was turned into mourning," he said. "My son worked with me at a packaging company factory in New Karachi. He was hardworking and responsible."

The grieving father added that Saad was the second among three siblings and had been supporting the family through his work.

Police officials stated that a case would be registered, and nearby CCTV footage was being examined to identify the culprits.
