Taylor Swift reveals who set her up with Travis Kelce
Taylor Swift reveals that the unlikely matchmaker was none other than her mother, Andrea Swift

Taylor Swift has opened up about the early days of her relationship with Kansas City Chiefs star Travis Kelce, confirming that her mom played a key role in bringing them together. The singer revealed the story while reflecting on how Kelce first entered her orbit, not through Hollywood circles, but through a heartfelt and very public gesture.
Kelce initially caught attention after attending Swift’s Eras Tour stop in Kansas City in 2023. On his podcast, New Heights, he shared that he had made a friendship bracelet with his phone number on it, hoping to give it to Swift backstage, but never got the chance. The story quickly went viral, and Andrea Swift took notice.
“I’m looking at the headlines and perusing what’s on the internet,” Andrea recalled. “And I see that this guy came to your show, and he brought a friendship bracelet and wanted to meet you.”
Intrigued, Andrea did some quiet investigating. She reached out to a family member who was a big Chiefs fan to ask about Kelce. What she heard sealed the deal. “They said, ‘Oh my God, he’s the nicest guy, and he really loves his mom,’” Andrea said, adding with a laugh, “And I was like, ‘Ding, ding, ding, ding!’”
Taylor admitted she was hesitant at first. “I remember thinking, ‘Well, what would we even talk about?’” she said, joking that she had always considered herself “very non-athlete.” Still, her mom encouraged her to step outside her comfort zone and try something different.
Andrea described Kelce’s original gesture as especially meaningful. “It was so earnest,” she said. “The fact that he tried to bring something from her world, the friendship bracelet, that really said a lot.”
That nudge led to their first date, during which Kelce famously explained football to Swift by calling it “violent chess,” a description she said immediately clicked for her. From there, the connection grew quickly, with Swift later sharing that she became “kind of obsessed”, both with Kelce and with football.
What started with a friendship bracelet and a mom’s intuition has since become one of pop culture’s most talked-about romances. By pulling back the curtain on how it all began, Swift made one thing clear: sometimes, moms really do know best.
