The Silent Hill franchise could expand beyond its traditional settings after the positive reception to Silent Hill f, according to series producer Motoi Okamoto.

Speaking in a recent interview, Okamoto confirmed that the development team is now researching potential locations around the world for future entries.

Silent Hill f represented a significant change for the long-running horror series, shifting its setting from the United States to 1960s Japan.

Okamoto said this move demonstrated that the franchise’s psychological horror could translate across cultures while maintaining its identity. Following the game’s reception, the team has begun discussions about additional international locations.

Okamoto said these early conversations have included South Korea, parts of Central and South America, Russia and Italy. He explained that the goal is not simply to change scenery, but to explore regions with belief systems and folklore that could support the series’ established themes.

“For example, in Central or South America, we could perhaps tap into the more local, shamanistic beliefs and see how that ties in,” Okamoto said. “But we could also try to expand our horizons and look into other regions, like possibly Russia, Italy, or South Korea, because all those areas have their own unique types of belief systems. I believe that will be a gateway for us to expand our concepts further.”

Okamoto added that any future setting would need to be closely connected to local culture, history and social anxieties. He indicated that the development team is focused on finding regions where folklore aligns naturally with the psychological horror elements that define Silent Hill.

The comments come as fans await the Silent Hill remake and Silent Hill: Townfall, both of which are still in development.

While no new titles have been formally announced beyond those projects, Okamoto’s remarks suggest the series could move towards more internationally focused stories in the future.
