Newly released surveillance footage shows Nick Reiner, the son of filmmaker Rob Reiner and author Michele Singer Reiner, stopping at a Los Angeles gas station shortly before his arrest in connection with the deaths of his parents.

Video obtained by ABC7 Eyewitness News captures the 32-year-old purchasing a drink moments before police took him into custody. In the footage, Reiner is seen wearing a multi-colored tracksuit jacket, a black cap, and carrying a backpack. Additional video shows officers approaching and arresting him without incident.

Rob Reiner, 78, and Michele Singer Reiner, 70, were found dead inside their Brentwood home on Sunday, Dec. 14. Authorities said the couple suffered fatal stab wounds. According to sources familiar with the investigation, the bodies were discovered by the couple’s youngest child.

The Los Angeles Police Department later identified Nick Reiner as a suspect. He was arrested roughly six hours after the discovery of the bodies near the University of California, Los Angeles campus and booked on suspicion of murder. Police confirmed he is being held without bail.

On Tuesday, Los Angeles County District Attorney Nathan Hochman announced that Reiner will be charged with two counts of first-degree murder, with a special circumstance allegation involving the use of a deadly weapon. Prosecutors formally filed the charges later that day.

Reiner did not appear at his initial court hearing, as his attorney said he had not yet been medically cleared. Court proceedings are expected to resume once he is deemed fit to appear.

Investigators continue to review evidence as the case moves forward. Authorities have not disclosed a motive, and the investigation remains ongoing.
