HYDERABAD:

The Sindh Action Committee (SAC), a coalition of several Sindhi nationalist parties, announced on Monday that it will organise a series of conferences across the province to mobilise public opposition against the 26th and 27th constitutional amendments.

Addressing a press conference in Jamshoro, SAC convener and Sindh United Party head Syed Zain Shah said the conferences will be held in Karachi, Hyderabad, Larkana, and Benazirabad, beginning at the end of December.

"A dictatorship is being enforced in the country through these amendments," he argued. "The courts have been weakened and the fundamental rights of citizens are being denied." He further claimed that under the guise of legislative reforms, political activities are effectively being banned.

Shah also referred to the alleged police crackdown in Karachi on Sunday against participants of Sindhi Culture Day events. He held the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) responsible and demanded that the party issue an apology to the people of Sindh.

The Sindh Action Committee leader expressed deep concern that the government is not stopping at the 26th and 27th amendments, warning that a new amendment is being planned to create new provinces. "We will never accept the division of Sindh, and any such measure will trigger a strong protest movement," he cautioned.

The press conference was preceded by a meeting attended by several nationalist leaders.
