Markiplier’s self-financed horror film ‘Iron Lung’ set for January theatrical release
Markiplier’s horror film “Iron Lung” hits theaters in January, fully funded and distributed by the YouTube star

YouTube star Markiplier is officially bringing his long-awaited horror sci-fi film Iron Lung to theaters in January 2026.
The creator, whose real name is Mark Fischbach, produced, wrote, directed, edited, financed, and stars in the feature, adapted from David Szymanski’s 2022 indie horror game of the same name.
Markiplier has spent nearly three years pushing the project through post-production and preparing it for theatrical release. He is also self-distributing the film, partnering directly with independent theaters across the U.S. For opening weekend, running January 30 to February 1, he aims to secure 50 to 100 participating theaters. Ticket sales begin Friday, aligning with the Los Angeles premiere at the Alamo Drafthouse Downtown.
Iron Lung features a supporting cast that includes Caroline Rose Kaplan, Troy Baker, and Elsie Lovelock. The story is set after a cosmic event known as the Quiet Rapture, which wipes out stars and planets. When researchers discover an ocean of blood beneath the surface of moon AT-5, a convict is welded into a submarine and sent on a high-risk mission that could earn their freedom — or end their life. Markiplier jokes that the film contains “the most blood in any movie,” noting the massive practical effects effort behind the production.
The creator, who has more than 73 million followers across platforms and over 37 million YouTube subscribers, continues expanding beyond digital content. His recent credits include the Amazon Prime Video series The Edge of Sleep and the Emmy-nominated In Space with Markiplier.
A streaming release date for Iron Lung has not yet been announced.
