Jenny Han has given a new update on the progress of The Summer I Turned Pretty movie, confirming that the project has not yet begun filming.

Speaking at The Wrap’s 2025 Power Women Summit on Tuesday, the author and co-showrunner of the Prime Video adaptation shared that the script is complete but production has not started. “[I] just wrote it,” she said. “We have not filmed anything yet. I know that everyone was hoping that it was coming out this Christmas, but unfortunately, not happening, not possible.”

Han explained that although filming for the third and final season of the television series wrapped last year, post-production continued until June 2025.

Because the show premiered in July, she noted that there was little opportunity to move immediately into work on the film. “The show came out in July,” she said. “So it was really up to the last minute on the show, so that we wouldn’t have had time to film the whole movie.”

She also confirmed that she will be directing the film, following her experience directing episodes in Season 3.

Alongside the highly anticipated movie, Han revealed she is also developing “a couple of other movies” and “a couple of shows.”
