Megabonk Nominated for The Game Awards Players’ Voice After Debut Indie Withdrawal
Megabonk secured a fan-voted Players’ Voice nomination after stepping aside from Debut Indie category

Megabonk has secured a nomination at The Game Awards after developer Vedinad withdrew the game from the Debut Indie category.
Initially nominated for Best Debut Indie on November 17, Megabonk’s eligibility was reconsidered when Vedinad explained that it was not his first game, having previously released other projects under different studio names. He thanked fans for their support and voluntarily stepped aside, a move confirmed by Geoff Keighley shortly after.
The situation shifted on December 1 when Vedinad announced on X that Megabonk had earned a nomination for the Players’ Voice award. “WE’RE SO BACK,” he wrote, sharing a doodle of a humanoid Fox injecting himself with hopium. “I withdrew my other nomination due to Megabonk not fitting the category, but with this new nomination we’re more back than ever. Go vote pls.”
Unlike Debut Indie, Players’ Voice is a fully fan-voted category across three rounds. The first round features thirty notable games, including Elden Ring Nightreign, Hollow Knight Silksong, Hades II, Fortnite, Genshin Impact, Battlefield 6, Dispatch, and Split Fiction. Megabonk’s inclusion is driven entirely by audience support rather than category rules, highlighting the game’s popularity among players.
Fans have welcomed the shift, noting that Players’ Voice aligns better with Megabonk’s rise and community backing. The Game Awards, airing on December 11, will see Megabonk competing exclusively in the Players’ Voice category, while Debut Indie continues with the updated lineup of Blue Prince, Clair Obscur Expedition 33, Despelote, and Dispatch.
This nomination marks a significant moment for Vedinad and Megabonk, demonstrating the influence of fan engagement on award recognition.
