Nicki Minaj delivered a rare diplomatic address during a special event in New York aimed at drawing attention to growing concerns about violent attacks on Christians in Nigeria.

Introduced by President Donald Trump’s UN ambassador Mike Waltz, the rapper opened her remarks by thanking both Waltz and Trump, calling it an “honor” to spotlight what she described as deadly threats faced by thousands of Christians in the region.

Minaj emphasized the importance of religious freedom, telling the audience that no group should be persecuted for practicing their faith. She highlighted that her global fanbase, known as the “Barbz,” includes many supporters in Nigeria, which she called a nation with deep spiritual traditions.

Her speech came after Trump suggested he was considering military action in Nigeria and suspending aid due to what he claimed was the government’s failure to protect Christian communities. Nigerian officials rejected the U.S. president’s comments, while experts noted that both Christians and Muslims have been victims of extremist violence.

Waltz explained that Minaj was invited to speak after she backed Trump’s online comments about Nigeria on social media. He praised her willingness to use her platform to raise awareness for issues outside the entertainment world.

Minaj also expressed gratitude for the invitation on X, saying she did not take the opportunity lightly. She reiterated her belief that influence should serve a greater purpose and reaffirmed her stance against religious persecution.

The appearance follows recent headlines surrounding Minaj’s online feud with rapper Cardi B and her continued engagement with political conversations, including reacting to a White House TikTok video featuring a remix of her hit song “Beez In The Trap.”
