Jessica Simpson marks eight years sober, says alcohol ‘blocked my dreams’
Jessica Simpson reflected on eight years of sobriety, saying alcohol once “blocked my dreams” and faith guides her now

Jessica Simpson has celebrated eight years of sobriety, sharing a message about faith and personal growth with her followers.
The singer and fashion entrepreneur posted on Instagram on Saturday, reflecting on how alcohol once “blocked [her] dreams” and “silenced [her] intuition.”
“Eight years ago today I made the choice to confront, to confess and to let go of the self-sabotaging parts of my life that I was choosing,” she wrote alongside a smiling selfie.
“Making that decision allowed me to fully live in the pursuit of God’s purpose for my life. Alcohol silenced my intuition, blocked my dreams and chased my circulating fears of complacency.”
Simpson, 45, continued: “Today I am clear. Today I am driven by faith. Both fear and faith are something that we feel and may not see. I’m so happy I chose faith over fear. It was not in the fight that I found my strength, it was in the surrender.”
Speaking to People magazine earlier this year, Simpson explained that sobriety had reshaped her songwriting process as she returns to music after nearly 15 years.
“The moment I started drinking too much was when I started writing music in 2016 and it was making me go to places and feel sorry for myself,” she said. “I actually am so much more honest without alcohol, and I actually believe myself so much more without alcohol.”
In her 2020 memoir Open Book, Simpson revealed she quit drinking after her inebriation on one Halloween, which stopped her from dressing her children in their costumes, an incident she described as “a wake-up call.”
