Justin Trudeau paid tribute to Katy Perry’s 2015 Super Bowl performance by dressing as her viral “left shark” character for Halloween.

The former Canadian prime minister shared photos of the costume on social media, revealing that his 11-year-old son, Hadrien, joined him in the themed look.

“Ready for Halloween with Hadrien: he’s the surfer, I’m the shark (to his left),” Trudeau wrote in the caption. “We built the costume together — a little father-son Halloween teamwork.”

Fans quickly recognised the reference to Perry’s halftime show, during which one of her shark backup dancers famously performed out of sync.

Comments on the post included GIFs and references to the “left shark” meme that became a global sensation following the 2015 performance.

The Halloween post followed growing public interest in Trudeau’s relationship with Perry. Last month, the pair were photographed together on the singer’s yacht off the coast of Santa Barbara, California, and later seen leaving the Le Crazy Horse cabaret in Paris on Perry’s birthday. In video footage, the two appeared hand in hand as onlookers sang “Happy Birthday” to the pop star.

Perry later appeared to reference the relationship during her concert at London’s O2 Arena, telling the audience: “No wonder I fall for Englishmen all the time… but not anymore.”

Perry confirmed her separation from British actor Orlando Bloom, with whom she shares daughter Daisy Dove Bloom, in July.

Trudeau announced his separation from his wife of 18 years, Sophie Gregoire Trudeau, in August 2023. The couple share three children: Xavier, Ella-Grace, and Hadrien.
