Tom Felton made a dazzling return to the Harry Potter universe this week, lighting up New York City’s iconic Empire State Building in celebration of his reprised role as Draco Malfoy. The event marked a milestone moment for the actor, who will take the stage on Broadway in Harry Potter and the Cursed Child, playing the same character that made him famous over two decades ago.

Standing atop the Empire State Building, Felton was introduced by the tower’s Vice President of Operations, Tom Middleton, before flipping the ceremonial switch that illuminated the building in the colours of the four Hogwarts houses; red, yellow, green and blue. The final glow stayed green in honour of Slytherin, Draco Malfoy’s house and a symbol of Felton’s most memorable role.

This Broadway revival marks the 38-year-old actor’s first return to the Harry Potter franchise since the films ended in 2011. Felton described the experience as deeply emotional, calling it a “full-circle moment”. He noted that he will be the same age as Draco in the play, adding a layer of realism and maturity to his portrayal. His look has evolved too, with Felton swapping his signature platinum hair for a short brown cut and a relaxed style that reflects his growth since his Hogwarts days.

Felton’s run in Harry Potter and the Cursed Child begins on 11 November 2025 at the Lyric Theatre on Broadway, where he will perform through 10 May 2026. The play, written by Jack Thorne with J.K. Rowling and John Tiffany, has already earned six Tony Awards, including Best Play and Best Director. Fans are eagerly anticipating how Felton’s return as Draco will enrich the acclaimed stage adaptation.

Adding to a busy year for the actor, Felton also stars in the upcoming sci-fi thriller Altered, premiering on 11 November 2025. The film explores a world dominated by genetically enhanced humans, further proving Felton’s range beyond his wizarding roots.

From Hogwarts robes to Broadway lights, Tom Felton continues to cast a spell over audiences. His return as Draco Malfoy and his Empire State Building tribute remind fans why the Harry Potter legacy still shines bright.
