Yango Ride has introduced a new feature called Flex Mode for partner drivers on the Yango Pro app, allowing users to work on a part-time basis with greater discretion over which trips they accept. The feature has been launched in Karachi, with rollout to other cities expected in the coming months.

Flex Mode allows drivers to view fares and destinations before accepting a trip, and to choose when to work without incurring penalties for declining orders. According to the company, the feature is intended for individuals who want to earn supplementary income, including office workers, freelancers, retired persons and students who have variable schedules.

Yango Pakistan's Country Head Miral Sharif said the mode is designed for those who do not rely on driving as a full-time occupation but seek flexibility in determining their working hours and trip selection.

Flex Mode operates alongside the platform’s Max Mode, which targets full-time drivers seeking more consistent earnings and bonuses. Both options form part of the company’s broader driver earnings structure within the Yango Pro ecosystem.

The launch comes at a time when Pakistan’s app-based ride-hailing sector continues to grow, with digital mobility platforms becoming a common source of primary or supplementary income for many workers. However, the shift toward more flexible, part-time participation may have broader effects on the market.

Increased flexibility may attract more part-time drivers during selective hours, potentially improving availability in certain areas or time slots. However, since drivers can choose trips without penalties, there is a possibility that longer-distance or less profitable rides which are often requested from low-density neighbourhoods may be accepted less frequently, affecting service coverage.

Earnings outcomes are also likely to vary. Drivers who selectively accept high-demand trips may benefit, while others could experience income fluctuations depending on fuel costs, time-of-day demand and platform incentives. As gig-based work expands without formal worker protections, questions around income stability, insurance coverage and regulatory oversight may also gain relevance.

Yango has not yet released data on how Flex Mode has affected trip distribution, wait times or average driver earnings. Those indicators will be important in assessing the feature’s long-term impact on both the platform and the mobility sector.
