Emiru speaks out after assault at TwitchCon 2025, blasts Twitch's response and security failure

Streamer and cosplayer Emiru has spoken out following an assault during TwitchCon 2025 in San Diego, saying she “did not feel cared for or protected” after the incident and criticising Twitch’s response to the event.

In a video widely shared online, a tall man is seen approaching Emiru rapidly during a meet-and-greet, grabbing her before security intervenes. The man appears to be holding a pen as he is pulled away. Twitch later confirmed that the individual had been removed from the venue and permanently banned from both TwitchCon and the Twitch platform.

Twitch issued a statement calling the behaviour “completely unacceptable and deeply upsetting,” adding that law enforcement and on-site security had responded immediately. The company said it has “increased security at meet-and-greet areas” and reiterated its “zero tolerance for harassment or acts that inhibit safety.”

However, Emiru disputed aspects of Twitch’s account, saying nearby TwitchCon staff “did not react and let the guy walk away,” and that only her manager and a friend comforted her afterward. She described learning about the assailant’s removal only hours later, crediting her manager for pressing the issue.

Emiru also highlighted a past incident where her personal security guard was banned from TwitchCon for detaining a stalker, leaving her without him this year. She said this contributed to her feeling unsafe. “Even bringing my own security and staff, I did not feel cared for or protected,” she wrote. “I can’t imagine how creators without those options would feel.”

Emiru has since announced she will no longer attend TwitchCon, while concerns about creator safety and Twitch’s handling of harassment continue to intensify.
