It Ends With Us author Colleen Hoover has announced she will not attend the premiere of her latest film adaptation, Regretting You, due to an “unavoidable surgery.”

The bestselling novelist shared the update with fans on Instagram, expressing her sadness over missing the milestone event but gratitude toward the cast and crew.

“I hate to have to announce this, but I will not be moderating the signing for Lukas Gage this month, nor will I be able to attend the premiere or any events for Regretting You,” Hoover wrote. “I’m super bummed, but am having an unavoidable surgery and can’t travel for a while. Please show up for Lukas Gage and also for Regretting You.”

She encouraged fans to tag her in their posts from the movie’s release, adding, “I’ll live vicariously through you guys. So sad to miss this movie release and premiere, but so grateful to all the actors and the team who put this together.”

Based on Hoover’s 2019 novel, Regretting You stars Allison Williams, McKenna Grace, and Dave Franco. The film explores family bonds and forgiveness following a tragic betrayal that forces a mother and daughter to confront painful secrets.

Hoover, whose books rose to viral fame during the COVID-19 pandemic, has been closely tied to the success of It Ends With Us, which starred Blake Lively and Justin Baldoni. While the film’s release in 2024 faced legal disputes and behind-the-scenes controversies, Hoover remains focused on her upcoming projects, including film adaptations of Verity and Reminders of Him, set for future release.
