A24 has officially locked in the release date for what may be its priciest romantic comedy yet. Zendaya and Robert Pattinson will headline The Drama, a glossy, big-budget rom-com set to hit cinemas on 3 April 2026 and insiders say the production cost nearly $30 million.
For a studio known for intimate indie hits like Hereditary and Midsommar, the price tag is eye-catching. Industry analysts are already calling it one of A24’s most ambitious projects to date, describing the film as “an extravagant leap into mainstream romance.” The figure includes the stars’ multi-million-dollar salaries and lavish European set designs that reportedly took months to construct.
Directed and written by Kristoffer Borgli, best known for Dream Scenario, the film centres on a couple whose relationship takes a chaotic turn just before their wedding. It also features Alana Haim, Mamoudou Athie and Hailey Gates in supporting roles. Production wrapped late last year, with A24 keeping most story details tightly under wraps, fuelling even more intrigue among fans.
The project is produced by Borgli alongside Ari Aster and Lars Knudsen under their Square Peg banner, in collaboration with Dilemma Films. Aster’s involvement has further driven hype, as his creative relationship with A24 has produced multiple box office and critical hits.
Both stars are coming off blockbuster years. Zendaya, a two-time Emmy winner, dominated 2024 with Challengers and Dune: Part Two, while Pattinson has juggled a packed slate including The Odyssey and Dune: Part Three. He’s set to resume filming The Batman: Part II in spring 2026, just weeks after The Drama’s release.
The lavish production has already sparked online chatter, with fans dubbing it “A24’s luxury love story.” Whether the studio’s expensive gamble pays off remains to be seen, but for now, The Drama looks like the rom-com that could redefine A24’s reputation, from arthouse darling to blockbuster contender.
